Fall 2024 SOTI MobiControl Update: Simplified Security Meets App and Certificate Management Sophistication

Fall 2024 SOTI MobiControl Update Part 1

The fall release of SOTI MobiControl 2025.0 is a huge launch, full of many exciting features. In fact, it’s so big that we split it up into two informative blogs! In this one, we’ll dive into SOTI VPN and new web console capabilities, showcasing how they will boost efficiency, enhance productivity and reinforce your business’s security.

If you’re ready to get started, so are we.

Optimize Your Android and Windows Devices with SOTI VPN*

The What

SOTI MobiControl is proud to announce a new offering for Android and Windows devices: SOTI VPN. It allows users to securely access the network services they need, wherever they are. With device-wide, per-app and split tunnel modes of operation, employees can unlock protected information wherever they are and in a secure way.

The Why

Consider the challenge of having corporate mobile apps access corporate services that are hosted on-premises, securely behind a firewall. When these mobile devices are on untrusted networks, such as public cellular networks, the common solution is a VPN. The problem is that typical VPN solutions are not well suited for business-critical use cases, because they require the device user to initiate the VPN session and/or provide a username and password. SOTI VPN has been specifically designed to avoid these impediments, so the user experience is frictionless. The device user never needs to think about the VPN. It just works seamlessly behind the scenes.

Your employees can then stay productive, while your business remains protected.

*SOTI VPN is only available to Premium Plus and Enterprise Plus customers.

Gain Centralized Access with Our Apps and Certificates Dashboards

The What

With two new dashboards, SOTI MobiControl offers a centralized overview of all managed apps and certificates across your devices, regardless of their operating system. Each dashboard features a unique perspective, providing comprehensive information. This means you can make data-driven decisions and save time by avoiding having to manage each device individually.

The Why

Let’s break down each dashboard:

SOTI MobiControl Apps Dashboard

Visibility is key to ensuring the apps your business needs to are installed and ready to service your mobile users. What are the consequences of not having adequate visibility?

  • Wasted time identifying which apps failed to install

  • Impacted employee productivity when apps fail in the field

  • Negative customer experiences, which can affect your sales or damage your business reputation

With the SOTI MobiControl Apps Dashboard, you can monitor app statuses for all the apps which are deployed via App Policies. With five key charts – platform type, app status, configured app version, apps and app source – you can unlock quick insights into different aspects of your app environment and easily troubleshoot if needed.

SOTI MobiControl Certificates Dashboard

This certificate management tool provides a comprehensive overview of your device certificate landscape. With hundreds or thousands of business-critical devices, it can be difficult for IT Admins to stay on top of certificate management.

Imagine you were responsible for the security and functionality of all the devices at your organization. Each device relies on multiple certificates for secure communication and smooth operations. How are you supposed to keep track of device certificate authentication, prevent lapses and avoid security vulnerabilities and service disruptions for them all?

With the SOTI MobiControl Certificates Dashboard, you can maximize management by accessing expiry dates, identifying at-risk devices and ensuring smooth device performance. With the help of easy-to-read, customizable charts, you can quickly consume valuable information and action it accordingly.

Simplify Recreating Managed App Configurations for Android

The What

This update to SOTI MobiControl allows you to easily and efficiently export Android Managed App Configs as JSON files. You can then seamlessly import them into another App Policy for streamlined app management, saving valuable time and ensuring consistency across your device fleet.

The Why

When managing large numbers of devices in a fast-paced environment, manually recreating configurations for each app policy is tedious and time-consuming. Also, small mistakes can lead to inconsistencies across devices. Managing app configurations this way helps you maintain efficiency and consistency for scalability and accuracy.

Prioritize Android Profiles and Share Assignment Filters

The What

Firstly, set an installation priority for your Android profiles, allowing them to install in a specified order. Secondly, save and share assignment filters across profiles and policies, eliminating the need to re-create filters for devices targeted by multiple profiles.

The Why

Both these enhancements save time and ensure more consistent results for IT Admins.

By having the ability to control the order in which Profiles are installed on a device, IT Admins can optimize device provisioning. This is particularly important when there are specific dependencies in the provisioning process, such as having to install a device configuration before a package installation.

The need to recreate identical assignment filters was a common yet tedious and error prone task. Now, SOTI MobiControl provides an efficient way of assigning a set of policies or profiles to the same devices via shared assignment filters. With the ability to save and share assignment criteria filters, you can save valuable time and increase configuration accuracy.

Content Library Files via SOTI Hub

The What

SOTI Hub has been enhanced to access SOTI MobiControl’s Content Library, in addition to SharePoint and the many other document repositories it already supported.

The Why

Setting up and managing a dedicated document repository can be burdensome, which is why SOTI MobiControl includes Content Library. It provides a straight-forward method of sharing files with device users.  In the past, device users would access documents that were distributed using Content Library via the MobiControl device agent. As of version 2025.0, device users can now access Content Library documents via the SOTI Hub app.  This provides IT administrators with simplified document management and device users with a superior user experience.
